Kex Hostel is a local hotspot for live music and a popular hostel for the hip and cool from all over the world. Iceland Airwaves music festival usually has some great live off venue gigs there. See this Youtube channel for good live performances. They serve food, and coffee. I have not tried the food there but the coffee is a tale of two things. The coffee itself and the experience and the atmospehere of the place. Starting with the experience. I like the place, hip and cool. Everything is used, the furnature is all second hand from various places and the general feel of the place spills out coolness. On the weekends it is a poplular place for locals and tourists to go out for a drink and enjoy themselves. I met a freind there and we sat outside in the back alley porch. Reykjavik showed its best weather with sunshine and over 20 degrees celsius. The alley was hot and the only people outside were not local. Good music playing. Paul Weller solo album. The conversation was fantastic, the feel was good. The coffee on the other hand was absolute rubbish. It was 500 kr for an institutional coffee brew on a 5 liter container. Something regular places would not use as a refill after the good cup. I was very dissapointed but drank 3 cups non the less. The company was fantastic and the music and the weather was great, but the coffee itself was not worth it at all. Strange that a hip place like this should only offer bad coffee. But other factors made up for it. Go there for drinks and fun and live music sometimes. Let the coffee be. Both expensive and simply not good.
