There is one place that has been a solid favorite of mine since it opened in my old neighborhood a few years ago. This bakery/coffee house is called Passion, and it is probably the best one Reykjavik has. It started with quality products in a time when far too many bakeries had started to import frozen items from abroad and bake them on the spot and call it quality. They have sour dough bread to die for and croissants are not in the same league as other places. They are the only ones I know of in Reykjavik who offer American cinnamon buns too. It used to to be my next door bakery, but since I moved I have to drive for 10 minutes to get there, but I still do that. Even I pass a few bakeries on the way. Too top it all they server very good coffee as well. Not the average cup, they are on par with the best specialist coffee shows in town. They use imported coffee from Australia called Piazza Doro that is very nice. We bought some coffee from them at my old workplace, and all the members of the coffee club there said it was one of the best they had tried. We used to try new coffee brands all the time from cheap supermarket brands to gourmet roasted on the day of purchase. If you are a local reading this or a tourist, it is worth the trip, even though it is not in the 101 Reykjavik area. They offer some great tea as well. I at least buy my herbal tea there :) It is nice to sit down and enjoy great bakery food and coffee. This was not supposed to be typical review post, but it turned out to be. They are not even trying to be a specialist coffee house, more a bakery that sells coffee, that in turn happens to be very good coffee.
