I am back after a hiatus from the world of coffee and experience, but I assure you that my resolve has never been stronger. After going through some strange times in my life, and the everlasting search for good coffee and a good experience in relations to the search for the perfect cup, it is time to start writing again. It has taken me to Spain, England, around Reykjavík and the places around Iceland. And in my head as well. I am getting closer to the best cup, but there is a long way to go.
My main joy over the last few months is Reykjavik Roasters and the increasing favorite coffee house Kaffi Laugarlækur. A hostel close to the city center, but not in town so to speak. It is close to the largest swimming pool in Reykjavik, and the coffee there is fantastic. I go there in the evening to chat to my friends and family. My favorite cup is there waiting for me. A shot of double espresso from Papua New Guinea. And it is intense. The flavors and the smell. It is a party in a cup. A real experience. I drive 16 km from my home for that one cup. As often as I can.

The other joy is my old home, Reykjavik Roasters. They have a WiFi now, and have stopped taking the creme off the cup like they did for a while. A very good thing. I am starting to feel like a regular again, the staff is great, they know me again, the flood of tourists has slowed down since the summer. And the conversations here are great. I strike up a chat with people who sit as the table or next to me when I am here and it is always great.
Met a couple from the UK last time I was here, and after asking where they came from. I opened up my coat and showed them my old Leeds University T shirt I was wearing, much to their joy since they reside in my old hometown of Leeds. Gave them some tourist information about northern lights, The blue lagoon and of course about great coffee in town.
The massive flow of tourists as some benefits for us locals. Places with good coffee are on the increase.
Now it is a must for me to search the city for great coffee and report to the outside world, so we who are in Reykjavik at any given time can warm our hearts and minds with the strange dark fluid that saves the soul when the day is getting short and the holiday stress takes over our busy lives.
Not often do I have the chance to sit down before work to enjoy a good coffee in a relaxed setting before work begins. Sometimes when I do manage that, I head to town to Reykjavik Roasters for an inspirational chat with Master JV.
This time around I am at Kaffi Kruðerí that is a part of the Kaffi Tár (translates as a tear drop of coffee) estabishsment. They generally have qulity coffee, and good things to eat. Bakery food mostly.
To sweet for me, so it is just coffee this time around. Marianne Faitful playing on the speakers and a very relaxed setting is a great start to the day.
The location is not the city center feeling, but that of an industrial and office area on the outskirts of town.
This place is an oasas within the relatively ugly industrial settings around this part if town.
The houseblend coffee is very good and relaxed atmosphere is refreshing this early.
My day job is better because of this morning cup.
As it happens one travels the country from time to time. While driving from Bárðardalur in the north east of Iceland after doing some farming with the inlaws, there is nothing better than to drive into a small town for a good cup of coffee. The town of Hvammstangi, known for Seals and the Seal museum. Small but a very lovely town.
The coffee house there is a marvel. A real home made feeling and the collection of small trinkets and old stuff on the walls. Even half the floor leans towards the ocean. Very charming indeed.
A well worth going there for the soup alone and the homemade bread that comes with it.
The coffee was good, not the best I have had, but very nice. The latte was ok to.
But the place alone is well worth the trip.
Went with my better half in beautiful weather and enjoyed the trip a lot.
Most of the cakes and food is homemade. The woman who runs it is called María Sigurðardóttir and she is so nice. Explained all the collection on the walls and knows a lot about the place of Hvammstangi and the near rural area.
Have been going back to the old favorite for a few times this summer of 2017.
I had half part lost faith in it, and half part simply did not have the time since I live in the suburbs now and have to drive a while to get to town. But as always, it is the search for the cup and the atmosphere.
Have met my friend Jón a few times now, and he is a true Legend. If you see him at the coffee shop, strike up a conversation with him. Will make the trip to Iceland well worth it, or the trip to town worth it.
Met him and his daughter for coffee this winter that restored my faith in Roasters again. Great cup.

This summer I have been to the Reykjavik Roasters a few mornings and loved every minute of it. A little less touristy than last year, at least in the morning, and the cups have been great. A little changes to the place itself, that keeps it alive and organic as it should be. Even started to buy my home machine beans from them again after a little break. So very very nice.
They are a micro brewery and roast their own coffee. Brilliant place again. And when I strike up a chat with people, tourists or regulars, it is always interesting and fun.
